Yet another “attached Image” Locky malspam pretending to come from your own email address — 2 Comments

  1. Hi,
Since march 2016 I’ve been receiving lots of spam with attachments, interestingly only one of my business addresses is being spammed. On average I receive 5-15 emails (except weekeds). I check them against this site and many of them are as follows very similar to what you post:
    – Seems like I send myself an email with attachment image or document.
    – Random invoice from a random company with .doc .zip. jpeg attachments.
    – Recently I realized that SOME malware containing emails would NOT show that they contact attachment in the preview page. However, if I check the source code, the attachment is there. Tricky 🙂 You think its normal email, with no attachement, but they are there, but somehow masked from main email view.

    Two questions:
    1. My filters automatically place such emails in JUNK which is great. However my question, how to protect from such email, this non-stop spam continues sinch March and no signs of stoppage?
    2. I realized that some emails I receive come from RANDOM companies, which seem to contain attachments. I am wondering if there is a way to know if someone is forging emails and using MY company name to send such spam email to others?

    I would appreciate any advice.

    • It is extremely difficult, if not impossible to totally filter all these spam emails on your end. You should be able to do it from your email provider . If your email provider uses DMARC or at least SPF checking & auto-deletes SPF failures or drops DMARC failures then at least 90% of this Malspam should be dealt with before it even gets to you
